KSER Newsletter – August 2011
Monday 1st August 2011
Introduction
The KSER weekend is fast approaching, and I hope you will be able to join us either at High Beeches, Portslade, or better still both !Regarding the High Beeches visit, it would be useful to have some idea of the level of interest (if only to give myself and our Treasurer Maggie Halls some piece of mind !), so if you thinking of going please could send me an email, or give me a call. That won’t imply any commitment on your part to attend.Apollo Fun Day – 6th August – Please note this event has been cancelled.
KSER Weekend 20th & 21st August
Naturist Visit to High Beeches Garden:- On Saturday 20th we have a naturist visit to High Beeches Gardens near Handcross not far from the A23. The visit is outside of their normal hours and runs from 5.15 – 8.30pm. The cost is £6, and children under 14 are free. No dogs (except for guide dogs) are allowed.

The evening isn’t just for BN members so please bring along your naturist friends. The BN gazebo and shop will also be there.
The tearoom will be closed, but there is a picnic area with tables, and a small covered area nearby, so you are free to bring your own food and drink.
We will also be running a raffle in aid of the Aldingbourne Trust a local charity which helps people with learning difficulties. The trust has recently lost funding due to the cutbacks. We would be grateful for the donation of raffle prizes.

For anyone who isn’t local to the area, I would mention that the National Trust has two gardens in the area which might be ideal for a visit earlier in the day, namely Nymans which is also at Handcross, and Wakehurst is only a few miles away at Ardingly.
For those who want to stay in the area over the weekend, the following clubs, Little Oaks, Apollo (both approx 8miles), and Millbank (approx 15miles) offer caravan and camping facilities. You will need to contact them and make a book in the normal way. Contact details as follows,
Little Oaks phone 07778 565428
Apollo phone 07576 252217
Email for Millbank – secretary@millbanksunclub.com.
BN Beach Day at Portslade :- On Sunday 21st we have our annual beach day. This year we move a couple of miles west from Brighton to Portslade (Shoreham). Lookout for the orange BN gazebo.
For those who are not familiar with this beach contact me for a poster which gives more details
If you have any question regarding either of the above events please feel free to contact me.
Volunteers wanted !
In connection with both the High Beeches visit, and the Portslade beach day, I would be grateful for some assistance in setting things up (such as a gazebo), and taking them down again on the days concerned. There is no question anyone having to “work” throughout, and just the odd half an hour of help would be much appreciated. Please let me know if you are able to help.
Beachwatch at Portslade Sunday 18th September
Another note for your diaries is Beachwatch, the annual beach litter survey and clean up, part of a national event organised by The Marine Conservation Society, which BN has been supporting for a few years now.
The meeting point will be in the parking area at the west end of the naturist beach at 11.00hrs. The Portslade Beach Day poster gives directions.
Depending on the amount of litter we should finished by 15.00hrs. However if you need to leave earlier (or arrive later) that isn’t a problem.
You will need to wear something on your feet, sandals are sufficient, and if you can, bring some gardening gloves. Depending on the weather of course, there is no need to wear anything else !
Whilst you can just turn up on the day, it would be helpful if you could let me know if you are planning to come along.
KSER EGM Saturday 1st October
As mentioned in the May newsletter we have an EGM at the Naturist Foundation at 14.30hrs, on Saturday 1st October. This is to discuss the proposed changes to the constitution of the region.
In simple terms the idea of the change is that we will hold three open meetings for members every year, one of which in May, will be the AGM.
For those who like to get their diaries sorted out well in advance, next years AGM will be at the Little Oaks Club, near Crawley on May 12th 2012.
May I also remind you that the BN AGM will also be held at the Naturist Foundation on Sunday 16th October.
Macmillan Cancer Support
Every September the cancer charity Macmillan, organize “The Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning,” to raise money for their work. Individuals and groups hold fund raising events across the country, not just coffee mornings, and not just on the nominal date, which this year is Friday 30th September.
http://coffee.macmillan.org.uk/Home.aspx
Last year in the autumn I held what was apparently, the world’s first (so far as Macmillan goes) naturist coffee morning. This was actually a very small event, but thanks to donations received from people who couldn’t attend in person we raised over £60.
This year I want to try something a bit more ambitious, and I have a few ideas. At the higher end of the scale is a clothes optional disco. However that isn’t something that I can arrange on my own, and whilst I’m happy to do most of the running around, I will need some help with ideas on running such an event, and on the evening itself. At present Brighton, for a number of reason, seems to me to be a good location, but that isn’t fixed.
So if you want to help raise money for a very good cause, have what should be an enjoyable evening, and as a spin off generate some positive publicity for naturism, please do get in touch.
Naturist Walks – SOC
As many people will know the Singles Outdoor Club (SOC) apart from other activities, organises naturist walks in the S.E of England. These are very popular with forty four people joining a walk earlier in the season. You don’t have to be a member of SOC. There are two or three walks per month from now until October. Forthcoming dates, (just the walks within this region) are, 13th August Hoo Peninsula (nr Gravesend), 24th August Friston Forest (nr Eastbourne), and on 11th October Ashdown Forest (nr East Grinstead) which is the last walk of the season.
Most walks start from a pub, at about 12.00hrs, and usually finish at the same place, where walkers have the option of staying for a meal.
The SOC website gives more details, http://www.soc-uk.info/walks.html
or you can contact me.
Evening Naturist Walks
One of our members Bruce Brown, is also arranging some naturist walks during the evenings this summer.
For further details of both this one and future walks, please contact Bruce on this email address: bootsonly@gmail.com.
Nude Network – a reminder
One member Roger John Eyre, wants to make contact with other naturists in the region, with a view to arranging social meetings at venues or in each others home. Roger’s email address is rogermscpgcetechbschons@hotmail.co.uk so that anyone who is interested can contact him.
Regards,
John Rodgers
